چکیده

Scanning a halftone image introduces halftone artifacts, known as Moire patterns, which significantly degrade the image quality. Printers that use amplitude modulation (AM) screening for halftone printing position dots in a periodic pattern. Therefore, frequencies relating half toning arc easily identifiable in the frequency domain. This paper proposes a method for de screening scanned color halftone images using a custom band reject filter designed to isolate and remove only the frequencies related to half toning while leaving image edges sharp without image segmentation or edge detection. To enable hardware acceleration, the image is processed in small overlapped windows. The windows arc filtered individually in the frequency domain, then pieced back together in a method that does not show blocking artifacts.

A Review on Scanned color image improvement using image descreening

To print continuous tone images, Electrophotographic (EP) printer uses halftoning technique. Image halftoning prints the image as matrix of dots which are halftone patterns those are hardly perceived by human eyes. So scanned images obtained from such hard printed copies are normally affected by screen like artifacts and moiré patterns. Scanned color Image improvement using Image descreening te...

Universal descreening technique via wavelet analysis

In this paper, a novel wavelet-based approach to recover continuous tone images from halftone images is presented. Wavelet decomposition of the halftone image facilitates a series of spatial and frequency selective processing to preserve most of the original image contents while eliminating the halftone noise. Furthermore, optional non-linear ltering can be applied as a post-processing stage to...

Segmentation and automatic descreening of scanned documents

One of the major challenges in scanning and printing documents in a digital library is the preservation of the quality of the documents and in particular of the images they contain. When photographs are offset-printed, the process of screening usually takes place. During screening, a continuous tone image is converted into a bi-level image by applying a screen to replace each colour in the orig...

A New Descreening Technique in the Frequency Domain

In this paper a new algorithm to obtain a continuous tone image starting from a halftoned one is proposed. This descreening technique is based on Butterworth filtering in the frequency domain. It removes the pattern of the original screen leaving unchanged the colors in the image. The proposed algorithm ensures fast and effective results, and can be used also by non-qualified operators.
